Review of Workplace Relations Framework | Issue Papers

23rd January 2015

The Australian Government has asked the Productivity Commission to look at possible improvements to Australia’s workplace relations system. The Productivity Commission will assess the performance of the workplace relations framework, including the Fair Work Act 2009, focussing on key social and economic indicators important to the wellbeing, productivity and competitiveness of Australia and its people.

A key consideration will be the capacity for the workplace relations framework to adapt over the longer term to issues arising due to structural adjustments and changes in the global economy.

The Commission has produced five detailed issue papers that pose many questions about the system.

Issue Paper 1 - The Inquiry in Context
Issue Paper 2 - Safety Nets
Issue Paper 3 - The Bargaining Framework
Issue Paper 4 - Employee Protections
Issue Paper 5 - Other Workplace Relations Issues

Submissions to the the Productivity Commission on each of these issues may be made no later than 13 March 2015. A draft Report will be published in June / July 2015 for public consultation.
